Technology should give you time back

Most technology asks for more of your attention. I want to build the kind that gives some of it back.

Look at your phone at the end of a day. Count the apps that wanted something from you: a minute, a click, a reply, a reason to come back. Most of them are very good at it. Many are built to be.

I think that is the wrong goal.

Start with the person

When I build something, I try to start with a simple question: will this give a person more room to think, to create and to live? Not more screen time. More room.

A small, thoughtful improvement can change the shape of a day. A tool that works without asking you to log in again. A tool that keeps working when the internet is gone. A tool that does its job and then leaves you alone.

Tools you own

Many tools today work like a rent. You pay every month, and when you stop paying, or when the network is down, you have nothing. I would like to see more tools you simply own. Tools that respect your privacy because your data stays with you. Tools that work offline, on your own device.

This is not only about money or technology. It is about calm. It is easier to rest when you know your tools will not stop working, will not watch you and will not ask for more.

Close to people

Good technology should feel close to the people who use it. It should support your judgement, not replace it. It should respect your attention, not compete for it.

That is the idea behind ilyxen, my biggest project. It is not finished. Maybe it never will be. But the direction is clear to me: technology should give people more independence and more control over their own lives.

If a tool makes your day a little lighter, it did its job.
